It is very difficult to wait for the new Land Rover Defender patiently, according to Land Rover Design Chief Jerry McGovern, who confirmed that the model was “not far away.”
At the Automotive News Europe conference last week, McGovern spoke about the successor to the original model, which ceased production in 2016 after a period of more than 60 years, will return to life. The new version is expected to maintain the same robustness as the original release.
He said: “The next model will be strong and the customer will get up to more.”
While the new Defender look will retain an emotional relationship with the previous generation, McGovern pointed out that the new version will be more recent, saying it aims to attract a new generation of buyers as well as existing Devenders.
“For a very long time this car has been the emotional essence of our brand and in order to move the brand forward we need to create desirable and relevant vehicles to attract a wide range of customers.”
Magvern’s comments support what we have already heard. A few years ago, information was received that the new Defender would arrive in 2018 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the sign.
The Land Rover can produce up to 30,000 copies of SUVs each year. As mentioned above, the new Defender will be based on the same engineering architecture as the new Range Rover Sport and Land Rover Discovery.
